Building upgrades next to the required module
Hello fellow astronauts lost out there,
I often wondered if there is any benefit from building modules next to the one you want to upgrade. When I build the tau stasis anywhere in my ship I can jump the longer distance. But when I built a void fluctuation thingy next to my shields I noticed that the shields icon changed and the void fluc was framed blue.
Is there any gain to built components next to each other like a bigger bonus? Or is it just an optic effect and it does not matter?
Thanks for your help guys and good voyage

Yes, there is always a bonus.
If you build Tau Stasis/Gravitational Well Generator/Subspace Reactor adjacent to your Space Folder, you will get an added boost.
If you put the Solar Sails/Gravitational Sails adjacent to the Interplanetary Reactor, you will get a boost.
As you mentioned, putting the Void Fluctuation Projector/Supra-Conductors/Thermal Resonance Generator adjacent to the Shield Generator will give you a boost.
Same thing goes for putting Planetary Expansion next to the Drill.
If I recall, putting the Gravitational Lens next to the Telescope will give a boost.
Technically putting Shared Cryonics next to Cryonics will give a boost, but generally I find them to be a waste of space.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind next time I upgrade my ship Unfortunately some ships have a default layout of modules that make upgrading them a pain but most of the time you cannot be picky.

Yeah, that's the whole point. They don't want you linking everything. Since the spherical ship has the most slots, it's generally the best for linking techs.
One thing to keep in mind is that it's usually not hugely beneficial to have 3 techs linked. There is a steep drop-off from 2 to 3. For example, adding the thermal resonance generator may give you +3, and then a 2nd tech +2, but I think the third may only be +1...if anything.
