Ansible failure

A recent game of mine gave me access to the Ansible technology very early in - probably within 3 or 4 jumps. Since I had the room and building blocks necessary - and had never used that tech before - I went ahead and installed it.

Initially it seemed as though the technology was working: each system I jumped into had a separate indicator telling me that the system was safe. I figured that this would give me the option to avoid the "Enemy Fleet" storyline by letting me know ahead of time what was there.

However, I eventually ended up jumping into a system that was labelled as safe but started the "Enemy Fleet" storyline anyway. Maybe the game is scripted to act this way but if that's the case, why make the technology available so early on?

Because you gain technologies completely randomly.

Yes, I know - that's the whole point of my post.

If the Ansible tech is supposed to be available then maybe it shouldn't be, since it doesn't seem to have any purpose before the "Enemy Fleet" event is triggered and doesn't allow us to avoid that event. And if it's NOT supposed to be in there, well then we've got a bug.  Very Happy

I had death seed as my first tecnology three or four times in a row. scratch

It doesn't seem to serve any purpose until after the Enemy Fleet event has already occurred, so I'm not sure there's a point - at least not as an early build. If the technology allowed us to avoid that series of events, or offered an advantage during the encounter, I'd think differently. Obviously it's not a big deal and now that I know it's not a bug, I'll avoid building the technology early on.
