creating a guide
Hi
i'm creating a guide
the guides so far have been about how to play the game
i'm making one that lets you know whats available
I've been taking screen shots during the game to facilitate this
topics covered will be
Ships
Elements
Technology
Technology Stacking
Language Translation
at the moment i'm mostly interested in translating the languages
there are a finite amount of words to cover but quite a few races
screen shots are the best way i've thought of so far
if anyone wants to join in they are welcome
thanks

I believe the language is randomized and it is different every time you play...

Re: creating a guide
What would be interesting is to write down all the possible sentences when encountering alien races.
iE :
ME PEOPLE XLIZRTAR
ME LOVE TECHNOLOGY
YOU DEATH YOU EVIL ?
There's probably 20 or so templates that exist, and it's those that are the most important.

The language seems to be completely random and without form but I agree the list of learnt words seems cryptic and may reveal a hidden message once all words are learned

But the language is random in every different device(i.e. my smartphone and my tablet)? Or can we do a "dictionary" with the words and sentences?

Re: creating a guide
I've actually found an Out There Wiki on Wikia (I cannot post a link but it can be found at out-thereDOTwikiaDOTcom) that I started contributing to. I haven't seen the original creator since I started contributing. Could be a good place to collect our experiences? I've also been trying to document as many translated alien conversations to work out patterns, but it seems even the phrasing is random and a lot of it hinges on certain words (good/evil, friend/death) and can end with very different reactions. Anyway I'm completely open to other peoples help or critique on the layout. Could use more work on the ships and modules/technologies.

I've made a google document with some stats, and with some solution for the dialog phase, because if you count the word of each line of text you can find the right answer.

This is an interesting thought. I'm going to try it now to see how it works. Of course this means my next playthrough I will encounter 0 Garden planets.
Edit: Yeah called it. 2 playthroughs, no Garden planets. Found one on third go through, found one that didn't match. Had pattern of 4-5-4. Are you counting the race name as a word? If not, it was 3-4-4 and Disapproving was the wrong answer

Re: creating a guide
it's not 100%
as i made this on 1-2 runs, i count every word

It could also be very possible that the same pattern exists both for affirmative and negative answers.

Re: creating a guide
It does, but only on one time by this far, i just don't remember the which one : /
And after that you still need to give the right ressource.

Hey, thanks for this guide, it's really cool.
If I have some info, should I put it in the comments of the doc?

Re: creating a guide
But I've been to an alien race who only required one resource so I gave them it only for it to say they weren't happy so I don't think you will ever find a solution to the language. The words and responses just appear to be totally random

Re: creating a guide
You are mistaken.
When visiting an alien race, the options you have are "Things you have that could interest that alien race".
Say, if you only have Fe, the only possible option will always be Fe, even if it's a wrong option and the alien race wants something else.

Re: creating a guide
Oh right. Seems a bit daft really and just adds to the total randomness of it all so I still believe there will never be a definitive guide to language and conversations unless the devs decide to change the whole mechanics for them. But my guess is that they are enjoying watching people struggle to translate it at the moment so will wait to see what results they come up with.

Unless you understand exactly what they want, you will always get the option of giving them Iron which may not be what they want. I had translated Iron and Omega and the conversation had them ask for something else which I happened to have. Hydrogen! Everyone was happy.

You can pass tought the first question, but i think after that it's a bit luck to give the right ressource.

Re: creating a guide
Not that much : the amount of possible materials mostly depends how far you're in the game.R22 wrote:You can pass tought the first question, but i think after that it's a bit luck to give the right ressource.
At the beginning, they ask either for Fe or H, even if you have more materials
Later on, they can also ask for Th or W
By the end of the game, they can ask for a loooot of things, not sure what's the exact list, but Hf and He are part of it
To ensure you give them what they want, just note down the untranslated word (Last word of the 3rd sentence), and note down the element you tried that didn't work... you'll eventually give the right element, and translate the word.
There's also some of the random events that can help you with translation - one of them has you trading with another ship, where you can give either Fe, H or O for Th, Hf or W (If my memory serves well) - it's a great way to know what each word corresponds to what element.

Re: creating a guide
The problem is that by the end of the game I usually have built lot of equipment, and I get rid of the elements I don't need (such as W, Th), only to keep H, Fe, and Omega of course.
