Cannot Encounter Life in late game

I have found that very late in the game I cannot encounter aliens. I think this may have to do with the following:

1. I have learned all the technologies.
2. I have learned all the words that they speak.
3. All the above.

What happens when I try? The HUD changes as if I am encountering alien life, but the dialogue box and alien picture does not show. After that I cannot take off or drill, and the only options are to check my ship, or go to game menu to give up, quit, or resume game. I have to quit and then resume game in order to pick up where I left off.

The frustrating thing is that I cannot achieve "encounter all alien races", and I cannot get anymore Omega from alien races. Btw I have finished 3 types of endings so far and love this game. Please fix this bug.

Since getting the patch today I'm no longer able to encounter life.  The alien doesn't appear and neither do the buttons to talk to them.  I'm playing a continued game from before the patch.

You must restart a new game.

Oh wow. Really... C'mon...
