Relearning telescope technology

Is it possible? It gets erased and the telescope destroyed (or not found on any ship after the starter) on me in so many games. Without it I'm unable to scroll and reach the red star. In my current game I have almost all the tech, but haven't gotten the telescope back. I have all 3 space fold range extension techs installed but they don't do any good unless I can select intermediate range stars to force the map to scroll. And I assume the red star is very isolated because this map scroll trick doesn't work for it.

I answered my own question by scumming the save system and revisiting a breathable world I can't count how many times until I finally got the telescope tech back.
